Do you know where your students are?

Hi Next Gen'ers,

ADE has put out some great data and it's still in draft format so they will accept feedback on it if you want to email them.  I want to give a couple of instructions on how to pull some great insights out of it.

Live in Your District but Attend Somewhere Else

Go to the School by Boundary District and turn on the AutoFilter (on the Home tab, looks like a funnel)

On Boundary Dist Name - Select Your District

That's it...the Grand Total is the ADM but you have a list of all of the ADM generated by students in your boundary and where they attend including those that do attend your schools so you might want to filter that piece out.

Attend Your District but Live Somewhere Else

Turn your Boundary Dist Name back to Select All

Set Attending LEA Name to your District

That's it...now you know everyone you take from and if the boundary is blank then that's Unorganized Territory

If you're comfortable with Excel then you can set up some pivot tables or some side by side tables so you can look at your net gain/loss from your neighbors.  You can also calculate your capture rate and thepercentage of students that you lose to Charters.  I'm actually shocked by some of it.  I still think Applied Economics does a great job but some of their insights were off.  Have fun with it!
